Asking for What You Want: Making Requests

The Holding Space

Asking for What You Want: Making Requests

Many of us find it challenging to ask for what we want. We may fear rejection or being judged. We might worry that we are asking for too much. We may associate asking for help with appearing to be weak. We might feel torn between our need for autonomy and our yearning for togetherness, so we don’t have to do everything alone. In relationships where there are differences in knowledge, skills, and capacities, we may worry that the person helping will exert power over us, leaving us feeling vulnerable.

How do you make requests from a place of empowerment? How do you handle hearing a no?

In this workshop, we will examine the common barriers people face in making requests and how to overcome them. You will learn practices and frameworks that help you ask for what you want from a place of empowerment and gain skills to invite people to support you in meeting your needs in the spirit of collaboration.
